Healing My Body Part 2 : Nutrition

When it comes to dealing with bacteria overgrowth, Leaky gut, Hormonal imbalances and lots more, lets just say its not so straight forward as we would like it to be.

Since my first post I made (here) opening up about my health journey, recently my health has become worse again and now finding myself suffering with much more added.

Candida is a bacteria that we all have in our bodies naturally, we have millions of bacteria living within us. However, when these bacteria's get out of control due to stress, diet, medications etc.. it can seriously impact your health in a bad way.
It can vary for each person but what I am currently suffering with:
. Server digestive issues
. Food sensitivities
. Tiredness and Fatigue
. Joint pain ( in my knee & legs)
. Dry and sore skin/nails
. Hormone imbalances

We now know just how important gut health really is. When your digestion is bad or deal with chronic gut issues like me, it has a major effect on your life and also your mental health! (Which is just as important).

Treating gut issues is a long term thing and when I was at my worst, I decided to take my health into my own hands. Doing my research, opting for natural Chinese medicine and reaching out to people who was dealing with the same problems, because you are never alone. Check out my girl @Georgiagibbs , she shares her story of dealing with her health and has helped me so much throughout mine.

My treatment and What I'm doing To Heal Myself

First thing I had to do was to change my diet. The food you eat plays a big part in your health. Nourishing yourself with healthy fresh ingredients.
So I had to cut a lot - no sugar, fruit, dairy, no alcohol, gluten, grains and starchy carbs.
This is because candida bacteria thrives off sugar and starches in your body which leads to an overgrowth causing inflammation in the body.

Which means my diet is anti inflammatory, anything easy to digest.
Lots of greens, veggies, lean protein, only blueberries for fruit, seeds and some nuts, dairy free products. I use millet and buckwheat as my carbs which are actually seeds but are so delicious and really helpful in healing candida.
Also, the warmer the better (Soups and bone broth) .Cooked food is best as it is easier for your body to digest and help to get rid off the dampness in the body where candida and bacteria thrives.

Along with the diet, I'm taking natural Chinese medicine which helps to clear the toxins and overgrowth out of the body. Then supplements to help my gut, liver and hormones.

During this I had help from Helen, my amazing health consultant who helped me get the right tests done and treatment that works for me. Definitely check her out for any gut health related problems. She's sure to make you laugh. www.completehealthclinic.co.uk

I want to share my journey and spread the message of how important our health is and taking the time to look after our self.
I will share more about my supplements and other tips in another post.
Let me know if you have any questions and what else you would want to hear about.

Until the next one.

Jess
